Cancer has been a bugbear for the community and become one of the highest causes of death in Indonesia, which was also triggered by an unbalanced diet or food contamination.
However, according to Dr. Ir. Francisca Zakaria, MSc, researcher and lecturer at Agricultural Technology (Fateta) Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in Bogor, cancer could be prevented, and this is done by improving the food consumption.
“Among them are fruits and vegetables are colored green like broccoli, green cincau pariah and that contains chlorophyll. Also, carrots, tomatoes, oranges and other foods that are rich orange carotene cancer prevention is also very helpful,” he said.

He further explained that cancer is not contagious disease that originated from the changes in genetic material, or DNA, which exist in normal cells and cells producing yag no longer the same as its parent.
“This is called gene mutation and 15 percent of which occur because of heredity, while the rest of the body caused by external factors such as viruses, continuous infections, air pollution, radiation, and foreign chemicals in food,” he said.
He said the cell which genes have mutated, if it could survive would be the forerunner of the tumor or cancer, because if he could continue his life and divide to grow it will become the tumor tissue.
“It’s definitely very dangerous because it can undermine the body and suck the nutrients as much as possible and make the blood vessels themselves,” he said.
By looking at the data shows that 85 percent of cancers caused by external factors, he said, the cancer could have been prevented.
Emphasized that it can be done by improving the food consumption in order to obtain all the 44 kinds of nutrients needed by the body in sufficient and available at all times.
He reminded that the human body is basically having a miraculous immune system can eradicate all kinds of microorganisms including viruses and also kill cancer cells.
Therefore, he said, the immune system needs adequate nutrients so it can be a “Natural Killer” (natural killer) cells in which mutated and infected with the virus.
One that can stimulate the activity of these immune system such as ginger and several kinds of mushrooms.
The other way is to prevent the entry of carcinogenic compounds by avoiding foods that contain pesticide residues, heavy metals, chemicals in food, medicines Excessive dust, and industrial compounds from vehicle exhaust, and cigarette smoke.
In addition, also by improving the body’s detoxification system and also by consuming foods that contain antioxidants such as carotenoids, vitamin A, C, E, compound “flavonoids”, “isoflavones”, “terpenoid”, “isotionoid”, “chlorophyll”, and ” phenol “simple shield that can be avoided.
According to him, these foods containing these substances was not difficult to find and consume as much food materials are common everyday materials, namely vegetables and fruits that are colored green and orange.
He suggested that consumption of vegetables and fruits at least reach 400-800 grams per day to get the antioxidant substances.
To center nutrition and protein should be obtained through fish, white meat, eggs, milk, eggs and nuts. While for carbohydrates, consumption of rice , flour from whole wheat, cassava, sweet potato, taro, or bananas.
Especially for fat consumption, he warns that using vegetable fats rich in linoleic, and oleic acid that is widely available in corn, soybean, and avocado.
