Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Hepatocellular carcinoma may follow different growth patterns. Some develop growths in the form of tentacles by the liver. This pattern is most common in the United States. Others begin as a single tumor that spreads to other areas of the body at a late stage of the disease. However, other develop as nodules in different places of the liver. Sometimes the pattern is not clear.

Liver Cancers

Cancer occurs when normal cells change and begin to proliferate uncontrollably and form a mass called a tumor. A tumor can be benign (not cancerous) or malignant (cancerous, meaning it can spread to other parts of the body).

Primary liver cancer is cancer that originates in the liver. More commonly, the liver is the site of metastasis (spread) of cancer that started somewhere else, like pancreatic cancer, colon, stomach, breast or lung. However, these are not primary liver cancer. 4. Metabolic disturbances.

Some metabolic disturbance may increase the risk of liver cancer such as abnormalities that cause the buildup of iron in the liver

1. The existence of mass in the right upper abdomen
2. Hands and feet swollen
3. Weakness, loss of appetite, weight loss, fever and chills
4. Yellowing of skin and whites of the eyes
