Set random nutritional requirements of a cancer patient is an impossible task, since each patient by age, sex, type of cancer and medical history is a particular case. But we can talk about the advice in nutrition, as general guidelines that should always be confirmed with the oncologist.

Cancer treatment and the disease itself produce states of malnutrition in the patient, which directly affects their quality of life.

Consider the general nutrition advice for cancer:

  • Fats: As cancer patients often experience fat loss and muscle mass, it is recommended that the daily calorie intake is at least 25% of everything consumed.

The word cancer is common among all, especially if we speak in relation to food, there are still many myths about the causes that cause it.

Each cancer patient is special, but look broadly common risk factors that recur in most cases:

  • Aging: While children, teens and adults can suffer, it is common that after 65 years of age becomes a risk factor.
  • The snuff: people who smoke are more likely to develop some form of cancer, besides being a habit that can be avoided.
  • The sun’s rays: ultraviolet radiation, both the Sun and from tanning beds, cause premature aging and skin damage. We recommend sun exposure in moderation and at convenient times after the 17 pm or before 11 pm.

An expert at the head of gynecology and obstetrics unit of Carlos Haya Hospital in Malaga, as well as expert in the field of bioethics and the unit responsible for human reproduction of Mother and Child Hospital, Dr. Alberto Reche Rosado, was interviewed earlier this month to give us your opinion about the possible consequences of being pregnant and suffering from cancer at a time.

Your opinion is pretty emphatic, specifying that a pregnancy can be interrupted or not therapeutically (ie, not natural causes) because of cancer depending on many factors discussed throughout the interview.
